SFIA, NFHS & NCAA Host Virtual Team Sports Rules Conference

Annual conference covers sport-specific changes in rules and regulations for high school & college athletics

SILVER SPRING, MD (March 9, 2021) — The Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA), the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) move the traditional Team Sports Rules Conference in Indianapolis to a virtual platform on April 13–14, 2021. Speakers from each organization will address the current high school and collegiate athletics market, including issues around athlete safety; Name, Image, Likeness; sportsmanship; impact of the pandemic moving forward; and sponsorships; as well as a State of the Team Sports Industry presentation from SFIA’s President & CEO, Tom Cove.

In addition, sports technology expert and visiting member of the International Sports Engineering Association (ISEA), David James, Managing Director of Labosport Ltd., will dissect technological change and development in sports. Dr. James will speak to the quality of sports facilities, uniforms, biometric tracing and equipment that is essential for athlete performance and safety.

A perennial favorite, Mike Oliver, Executive Director of the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE), will present updates on athletic equipment standards, and answer questions on how recent changes and standards affect the youth and collegiate sports landscape today. As health continues to be the number one priority for student-athletes, administrators are even more cognizant of all aspects of health: physical, emotional and mental.

The virtual conference will host individual sports presentations, led by NCAA and NFHS executives, providing a unique forum for leading governing bodies to express their views on where the industry is going, and the impact new product standards have on the future of health and safety in sports. The breakout sessions will include informational and enlightening discussions on current and upcoming changes and challenges in specific markets.
