Phase One Deal Signed: List 4A Tariffs Cut in Half

President Trump just signed the Phase One Deal with China, putting a potential end to the current trade war. Most notably, in this deal, List 4A tariffs were reduced by half. List 4A originally went into effect on Sept. 1, 2019, placing a 15 percent tariff on $120 billion of Chinese-made products. On February 14, 2020, List 4A tariffs will be reduced to 7.5 percent.

The 7.5 percent tariff on List 4A products will remain in place as leverage for Phase Two negotiations, and while List 4B tariffs were suspended, the President has suggested he will reverse course if the Chinese fail to live up to the terms of the agreement.

For now, List 1, 2, 3 and 4A remain in effect.
